All of my photographs, except for the handful of vintage silver-gelatin prints that remain in my files (priced separately at $600 each; please inquire via email for availability), are archival pigment ink printed on 100% cottom rag paper of the highest quality. Such prints have a life expectancy, under proper conditions, of at least 200 years (tests at the Wilhelm facility are ongoing), quite possibly a good deal longer.
I currently make prints in three sizes which I price and classify according to the short dimension of the paper. These prices are for prints only; unmatted, unframed. Ground shipping to US addresses is included (email me for prices to ship outside the US):
8X = 8.5x11 paper = $65
11X = 11x14 and / or 11x17 paper - $85
13X = 13x19 paper - $105
(I will make some larger sizes available for some photographs at a future date when HP markets a larger printer at a more economical price than they currently offer.)
[The above prices are quite substantially lower than prices I have customarily charged for silver-gelatin based prints in the past. This is a result of the fact that though inkjet-made, carbon ink on paper prints have higher visual quality and substantially greater longevity than silver prints, they are quite significantly less expensive and less labor-intensive to produce. To even remotely begin to think about making a living as a photographer making silver-gelatin prints, one is forced to charge hundreds of dollars per print just to recoup material and labor costs. This reduces the potential collector market to a very small percentage of the population and the more successful a photographer becomes (forcing him/her to continuously raise prices), the fewer people there are who have the financial resources to purchase his/her work. The carbon-ink-based inkjet printer has made fine photographs potentially available to a much larger percentage of the population and though many, if not most photographers now making inkjet prints are still locked into the old silver print price structure, a few of us have recognized the opportunity for a larger audience and are leading the way in that regard.]
The actual image area is of course smaller than the paper dimensions, being based solely on aesthetics. The short dimension of most images on 8X paper for example will be about 6.5 inches. However, image size is not guaranteed and is not negotiable. I print each image individually and at a size I feel works best on that paper size.
In the gallery you will see the paper sizes in which each image is offered as you click on an image to view it larger. No other sizes are available other than those offered. This is because photographs are at their best in only one or two specific sizes. My apologies, but I am firmly opposed to the current fad of making photographs in bed sheet sizes, an affectation resulting entirely from the desire of art dealers to make more money from photographs. The theoretical basis for my strict control over print size will be thoroughly covered in a new article soon to be uploaded to the MONOGRAPHS page.
I do not offer matting or framing services. However, you should definitely read this monograph on the subject before you frame your new photograph: Matting & Framing Your New Photograph
Purchasing one or more of my original, signed, fine art photographs could not be simpler. To make a purchase you will need only the titles and sizes of the photographs you wish to purchase (get this information from the gallery page), along with a dollar total determined by you from the prices on this page. (IF YOU LIVE IN THE STATE OF TEXAS, ADD 8.25% TO THE TOTAL FOR STATE SALES TAX.) Then, go to PayPal.com, You do not need a PayPal account to send money to anyone. Click on Send Money (you will find the send money link right under the blue tab buttons near the top of the PayPal page but it does not appear until the page finishes loading).
You will need to give PayPal my email address: david@davidkachel.com. Everything from then on is self explanatory. You can pay with a credit card, debit card, ATM card, or check. There is a field in the PayPal form for notes. Include the titles and sizes of the photographs you want there. Payment is instant and I will normally ship your photographs within a few days of getting your order (I do have to make them first and they take a full day to dry).
After you have sent money, drop me an email letting me know. PayPal sends instant notificantion of the transaction to both of us, but it can't hurt to make sure I'm paying attention and understand your order correctly.
If you make an error, don't worry. Using PayPal is just like the two of us standing on either side of a cash register. I can send money back, you can send more, you can demand a refund, I can threaten to throw you out of the store... etc.
Finally, if you prefer not to use PayPal, just send me an email telling me what you wish to purchase. I am happy to accept payment by mail in the form of USPS money order or Cashier's check.
